There are new spurtle shapes being sold on television and online, some flat like a spatula, some sloted like a spoon, but these are not the Scottish Style Spurtle. An ancient stirring stick designed to keep porridge (what we call oatmeal) from sticking to the sides and edges of the pot. There is even a Golden Spurtle Award in Scotland - for the best tasting porridge. Our spurtle is made of beechwood in Poland, 12 inches long and ties with a tartan ribbon.
Beechwood, made in Poland.
